2023 is turning out to be a great year for the media industry no doubt. I urge more to explore the ideation in the media industry.

The Apple new head gear Vision Pro

The future is actually in, untethered non-wearable, therefore disability-friendly, engagement-forward spacial hardware. Perhaps more a kin to miniaturized light/laser projection setups. Regardless, I am so, so glad to see light shed on ‘Spacial Tech’ in this case.

This is the perfect mouse trap by Apple it brings all the tech from their handheld line-up and Apple TV and blends it into a package with a new Apple Silicon. That’s freaking brilliant.

This is still the living room experience, still an extension of the 2ndscreen.Yet, I see this as a step in the right direction despite it wrapped in the Apple bundle.

This design in particular reminds me of the Sony headgear from back in 1996 in terms of looks. We have certainly come a long way since then. Some might link this is the MagicLeap headgear. And others connect this to your typical ski googles because of the way the eyes appear on the front display.

That said I believe it’s a step in the right direction. This is their first gen product in a very long time. It’s only uphill from here. It’s a more welcoming experience for the extended family living room, not secluding the user from people around. You have to admit it’s better than the competition, for a first iteration.

I am excited to see what broadcasters will do with this. The short-lived trend of 2ndScreen apps will make a comeback with a facelift. The return of 2ndScreen apps and its UX as an extension of broadcast television is a very keen area of interest of mine and I can’t wait to try how ESPN and live game shows put it to the test. This might even revive the live hashtag comptition days of Twitter if Elon Musk revives relationships with broadcasters.

Three particular things grabbed my attention that Apple nailed.

— The panoramic photo. As if viewer is standing at the same place seeing the scene with his own eyes from the photographer’s eyes not lens. This will probably result in photos embedding more info about the depth & sun’s position, altitude in geolocation tagging, maybe even wind speed, is a good guess. Feel what the photographing explorer sensed. Most interesting to me.

-- The digital mirroring of eyes on the display is perfect. That actually makes a lot of sense specifically for the use case scenario of Asian extended family living room, TV room gathering experience with elderly around. Everyone thought of it 12 years ago but no one did it.

— Finally, the bonus I’ll repeat, Disney collaboration will give them the boost they need for which Bob Iger returned.

I am concerned about the weight since its metal and glass however, I think Apple added a 2hour battery for this reason despite it being shorter than the length of a typical movie experience. Let’s wait and see what users say about this pertaining to ‘tech neck’, eye strain, neck strain and users who have varying versions of ‘photophobia’. I am also interested to see how this machine reacts to any scenarios where users have shunts in their heads.
